When you are working in a noisy environment, you should protect your hearing in order to avoid suffering from noise-induced hearing loss. For example, when you are undertaking lawn mowing, you should have the necessary hearing protection for lawn mowing.

The cool thing with the hearing protection devices is that there are many of them in the market that you can go for. Some of the best ones include:

These are small pieces that you insert into your ears preventing any noise from getting in. There are two main types of these pieces that you can go for: disposable and reusable.

Disposable pieces are made from foam and from their name, they are ideal for you when you are looking for pieces that you can use for a single use. Since they are made from foam, they are usually very comfortable.

They come with their fair share of positives and negatives. Some of the positives are:

  • They can fit different types of ear canals
  • Cheap and affordable
  • Comfortable
  • Small and easy to store
  • Don’t require any maintenance

Their cons include:

  • They can be difficult to insert into the ear especially when they are new or when you have small ears
  • They don’t provide proper hearing protection when inserted incorrectly
  • Tend to irritate the ear canal when dirty or old
  • Since they are small, you can easily misplace them
  • You need good hygiene if you want to use them more than once

For you to get the most from the earplugs you need to wear them properly. You should hold the earplugs between your fingers then roll the entire plug into a long, crease-free cylinder.

Using your free hand, reach around and pull your ear up and back in order to open the canal for the plug to enter. Once the canal is open, insert the plug and hold it for at least 20 seconds. This is to give it time to expand and fill the canal.

You should then do your work. Once you are done, remove the earplug slowly by twisting it. This is to break the seal. You should note that if you remove it too fast with the seal still in place, the suction could easily damage the eardrum.

Reusable earplugs are washable thus you can use them a number of times. Since you can use them a number of times, they tend to cost a little bit more. The good thing is that they save you money as you don’t have to keep on replacing them. They are also easy to wear.

In addition to saving you money, the pieces often don’t fit every ear canal thus you can buy them and they fail to enter your ear. For you to avoid getting infected, you have to keep them clean all the time.

You should wear them just like the disposable ones. After work, you shouldn’t dispose them. Clean, then store them. This is to avoid getting infected.

Earmuffs are made from tough materials—usually tough plastic and they completely cover your ears. Due to this, they are often more comfortable to have as you don’t have anything inside your ear canal.

While this is the case, their main flaw is that they have a lower noise reduction rating. This is because they don’t seal the ear canal, preventing the noise from getting in. The pieces are also inconvenient for you if you wear other protective devices such as glasses and hat.

Just like with earplugs, you can easily get an infection if you use them while dirty. This calls for you to clean them regularly to protect your ears.

While they have their negatives, they have their fair share of positives. For example, they are easy to wear, reusable, hard to lose, and very comfortable.

They also come in different varies such as radio headphones for lawn mowing and many others.

For you to get optimum noise protection you need to properly wear them. You need to adjust the cups on the earmuffs so that the headband fits comfortably over the crown of your head.

For ideal results, ensure that the cushions form a tight seal over your ear. It’s important that you regularly inspect the pieces for any issues they might be having and fix them as soon as possible. You also need to regularly clean them to avoid infections.
